KWF / Pink Ribbon - October International Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is breast cancer awareness month. KWF, the Dutch Cancer Society, has joined forces with Pink Ribbon for the first time this year to combine efforts and create extra awareness for this cause which still affects one in every eight women. The fight against breast cancer has not been won yet.

Dutch celebrity Danielle Oerlemans has designed this year's pink bracelet and all proceeds will go towards the charity. In order to promote the cause 2 social media campaigns were created in combination with a special promotion on the Dutch social network Hyves. Users of social networks can show their support by placing one of both widgets. And it is possible to buy the bracelet through the widgets.

Through this widget you can add a pink ribbon to your profile picture and show all your friends that you support this cause. Simple but very effective.

Pink Your Network

Breast cancer is serious, yet it is not the intention to create a scare amongst young women. Therefore, a second social media campaign has been created where you can design your own funky pink puppet or avatar. You can choose the shape of your face, the length and color of your hair, the shape and color of your eyes and mouth, and choose what type of nose you would like. The result is a cute little pink breast cancer fighter on the front of your widget. And you can scroll through all the other avatars which have been created. 

Action Page and Promotion

A special action page has been created to promote both widgets though which you can support the fight against breast cancer. The website, fight against breastcancer, also promotes the widgets. And an extra promotional effort was made by seeding the complete social media campaign on 15 different blogs, which are all geared specifically towards women.
